First
Monday Shanty Sing
You are invited
to The Dubliner on the First Monday of every month to sing sea shanties
and related songs!
This event was instigated
by The Eddies, and is supported by many
wonderful singers! (Sometimes The Eddies show up, sometimes not.)
This is not an official Eddies event.
Here is the obligatory FAQ.
When does it start?
All times are approximate, but around 7:30. Come when you can, but
leave when you must. We end close to 9:30.
Where is The Dubliner?
Southeast corner of Vandalia and University. That's in the City
of Saint Paul. Parking is a small challenge. You can park in the
stripmall lot on the west side of Vandalia.

What is the primary purpose of this gathering?
Singing sea shanties (and related songs) and drinking. Others may
wish to simply drink and listen. Drinking songs are good, too. This
is not a performance event. It is participatory. If you would like
to teach us a number, that would be great. In fact, if you are leading
the song, you really should take some time to teach us the refrain.
This is group singing. We will take turns leading.
Do I have to lead a song?
No. There is no requirement. Individuals will volunteer to lead.
We'll take turns. You can be in the back row and sing along on the
refrains if you choose.
Who is invited to sing?
Anyone who can sing on key. That really is essential. If you sing
off key you will be asked to sing quietly. We don't aim to be the
Robert Shaw Chorale, but we want to enjoy good singing.
Should I bring an instrument?
Probably not, unless you use it to start s song in your favorite
key, or if you have a nice version worked out with your instrument.
We do not want 12 guitars strumming, for example. This is primarily
an acapella setting.
Is there food at The Dubliner?
Popcorn
Please send me a message if you would like to be on the email list.
And please forward to other interested people.
Feel free to contact me with questions. I hope to see you on a First
Monday!

"That man that hath no music in himself, nor is not moved with
concord of sweet sounds is fit for treasons, strategems and spoils.
The motions of his spirit are as dull as night and his affections
dark as Erebus: Let no such man be trusted. Mark the music."

2009 &
2010
Our first session
was October 5, 2009. I am
going to stop updating this page because we have had a good crowd
every time and wonderful singing.
Hope to see you and hear you!
