The Eddies - Who Are They?

"The one-of-a-kind great singers of shanties and other upscale songs of life."

9th Annual Free Concert and Potluck
Down By The Riverside
May 27, 2007

The Eddies used to be a book club. Then we became a singing group. We live on Saint Paul’s famous West Side, on the banks of the Mississippi River. Eddies are whirlpools or currents that are contrary to the mainstream ... that's us! Five male voices, often acapella, sometimes with instrumental backup: acoustic guitar, occasional accordion, a little mandola. We choose music that is well enough known that we actually remembered it and/or learned it because we like it and thought we could make it sound good with 5 voices singing it.

We almost always "eddi-fy" our songs. W can't help it.

Minnesota Folk Festival (with Lou Killen)

The Eddies are always fun. We have appeared at the Two Harbors Folk Festival, MBOTMA Summer Festival, Minnesota Folk Festival, Minnesota Irish Fair, St. Paul’s Capital New Year Celebration, St. Patrick’s Day at Landmark Center, Big Deal Fundraisers, Art Exhibit Openings, Community Events, Bars, Festivals, 50th Birthday Parties, etc.

The Eddies are Tom Welna (vocals), Mark Richardson (vocals), Phil Platt (vocals and mandola), Paul Martin (vocals and guitar) and Chuck Lentz (vocals and accordion).

A Note About Fonts
When The Eddies got started, we chose the font called Papyrus for general use. It is a cool font, but too many people have started using it. We had to change!
